喜宴

Highlight of the week was a one-month baby anniversary party that Geoff and Cecilia invited us to.. dinner at XI YAN! I know I probably am a little late in reviewing this restaurant, since it was opened 3 years ago. But like I said before, am still reviewing nice places to go in Singapore. So bear with me! :p

Tucked at 38A Craig Road, this bright red restaurant does not have a signboard visible from the road for customers. Dinner starts at 7.30pm and you will need a reservation with minimum of 6 persons to dine there if interested.

We been 'Japan-ised', arriving on the dot!! :)

Our dinner menu consisted of:
1) Cold lobsters in duo sauce
2) Greenhouse tomatoes in sesame sauce
3) Stir-fried beancurd with salted duck's egg yolks
4) Braised Baby Abalone with Salmone Roe
5) Grilled Thai pork cheek
6) Sichuan salivating chicken with century eggs
7) Kimchi prawns with Shanghainese rice cake
8) Deep-frend grouper with lemongrss in shrimp paste
9) Basil sorbet intermezzo
10) Coconut chicken soup
11) Stir-fried mushroom with pickled cucumber
12) Lychee ice-cream in osmanthus flower wine and lychee

Although the dinner menu looks extensive but apparently service is timed at a pace that allows one to feel comfortable even after eating 13 dishes. That I agree. I didn't feel extremely stuffed from dinner, B could even eat another egg when we got home.

My favourite dishes were the Stir-fried beancurd with salted duck's egg yolks and the Sichuan salivating chicken which also happens to be the restaurant's signature dish. I enjoyed the way the chicken slices, century egg and yam noodles were marinated with the spicy chilli and tasty sesame sauce, this tingling sensation left my tastebuds wanting for more! This dish has a spice level of low, medium and high. Opt for the medium, cos if its too hot, you would not enjoy the dish!

Last but not the least, dessert!! The lychee dessert was a perfect way to end off dinner! Simply divine! B had 2 of that!

Overall, dinner was delightful with close friends and free-flow of alcohol which I couldn't drink since I was made designated driver!
