I could identify with がいごくじん or Aliens when they step into Japan. It just sounds like gibberish or endless chattering especially when you don't understand the language. Thats how 'Bob' and 'Charlotte' felt. Both Americans, they are just lost in the city for many reasons. Physically lost in the city not being able to speak the language and secondly, I think feeling lost in their own personal lives. Charlotte, being a new wife, followed her hubby to Tokyo after marriage. Not being able to work, she just hangs around the posh Park Hyatt Hotel and goes clubbing to past time. And she just feels lost, being alienated from family and friends. Could identify with Charlotte cos I am in a similar position. Whisked off to Tokyo almost a week after being married and being far from family and friends. I felt abit lost initially but I guess I was also really excited about embarking on a new life. I havent caught the entire movie yet but I am sure that I would be able to relate. I really had fun watching the first 30 minutes of the movie, cos now I could understand Japanese and I could see how I must have looked giving the totally blank look when I didnt understand any Japanese at all. Haha but sometimes I still do give that blank look cos obviously my Japanese isnt still quite that yet!
Ooh...I would be doing a "Lost in Translation" scene tomorrow..going to the New York Grill for Champagne Brunch!! Quite excited cos its been heavily recommended and had smashing reviews! This was one of the reasons why I decided to finally watch the movie! :p Park Hyatt here I come!
